Walking in Cement

All right so I have a story. Last night, I was coming back from classes. It was about 18.15 or so, and I had a Döner in hand. I went into my building and started walking up the stairs. However, for some reason, none of the lights in the stairs were working. Which was annoying. When I got to the third floor (that's my floor), I tried walking down the hallway that leads to my flat. I was rudely stopped in my tracks as I walked right into caution tape blocking the hallway, almost dropping my Döner. Of course, I had not seen this caution tape because none of the lights were working. So I got my phone out to try to see what was going on. Apparently they had laid some type of concrete or cement or something that needed to dry before you could walk on it. And I had sort of stepped in it by walking into the caution tape.

Anyway, the sign on the caution tape said something about 19.00, so I figured I would have to wait until then for it to dry and to walk across it. So I waited in Drew's flat, and then went back up to discover that several people had already walked through the cement or concrete or whatever and it was still clearly not dry. But I had no other choice really, as I had to get to my flat, so I walked through it as well, getting a fair amount of whatever it was on my shoes. Anyway, there's no real exciting ending to this story, except to say that they basically did a bunch of work without giving any of us any notice. And now my roommates are super pissed off and demanding a month of free rent. Hoofta. So that's that story.

Moving on to other things. The rest of this week has been fairly uneventful. All of my classes except for German are officially over. And German tomorrow is basically just review for the final. So basically I have no more homework except to study for finals. Which is still a large task by itself. I have a final on Friday, one on Saturday, two on Monday, and the last one on Wednesday. Then Wednesday night is one big party with everyone from our program, Thursday is packing day, and Friday is leaving day.

I am applying for massive amounts of on-campus jobs right now. I have my internship with STLF set up for the summer, but I would like a part-time job this winter and spring to help pay rent and save for grad school and such. So I have pending applications right now for 7 different positions I think. I even went as far as writing a cover letter for one of them, which is something I had never done before and really had no idea how to do it. We don't really take classes on writing cover letters in CLA. Just saying. Anyway, I hope to hear back from some of these places and possibly get one of these jobs. Even though I know they will probably all be super competitive because the U is basically in a hiring freeze.

When I get back, I plan to live at home for a few weeks. And then I will be moving into an apartment in Dinkytown. I am subleasing from Joel, a guy who is studying abroad during spring semester. So that worked out well. But we still need to get the details figured out concerning when he'll be moving out and when I'll be moving in and such.

I think life is going to be a little crazy when I get back home. At least for a couple of weeks. After New Years, hopefully things will settle down a little, and I can get settled into my apartment and life in Minnesota again. I'm really hoping spring semester is not as stressful as previous semesters have been for me. I'm looking forward to my guitar class a lot, as well as living in an apartment and having my own room in said apartment. No offense to mom and dad (I love you guys!), but I feel like if I can be living on my own, I should be living on my own, and I should be living on campus.

  1. Whoo for STLF internships :) Congrats on finishing class, and good luck with finals.

Also, one of the campus jobs you applied for is my current job at housing :P Don't worry, I put in a good word.
