I'm glad classes are done for this week. We had over 20 hours of class this week, which is a lot for a college student, especially when the homework time is supposed to be in a 2:1 ratio to class time. So that was indeed a long week.
Nothing too exciting has happened the last couple days. I'm sort of getting into a routine, which is good for making my life easier to live, but also not as exciting for my blog updates. My life right now is mostly school-oriented actually. Which is definitely not exciting for others to read about, but is exciting for me to be going through.
Tonight I plan on going out with a few people for a beer at a local bar. Not sure which one yet, but I probably won't be out too late. Tomorrow I have a training session from 11.00 until 17.00 for this thing called "Rent an American." It's this program where they find American exchange students to come into German schools and talk to their English classes about life in America.
On Sunday, we have an entire day field trip planned to Lake Konstanz, which is about two hours away from Freiburg. It is a huge lake that borders Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. It sucks that I have such a full schedule this weekend though, because I have two tests on Monday. That's right, we have tests already. And then on Tuesday we leave for our field-study trip to Berlin and Riga, Latvia until Sunday the 20th. So the next few days are going to be especially crazy.
I think I'm somewhat over the whole allure of living in a foreign country. We're getting into the real swing of our studies and classes, which kind of gives me less time to focus on the fact that I'm living in a different country. I fee like it wasn't that difficult to adjust to living here, either. Perhaps that's normal, I'm not sure. But I hear from others that sometimes the toughest part of studying abroad is actually readjusting when you return home, not adjusting to the foreign country itself. Especially because I know I won't be living here for the rest of my life. That makes it easier to adjust to living here. In the back of my mind is always the idea that I shouldn't worry too much about my adjustment to living in Germany because I'm only here for less than four months. I think I just said the same sentence three times.
In the middle of the night, the city of Freiburg shuts off certain stoplights around town to save energy. Sweet, huh?
