We have had three beautiful days in a row now in Freiburg. As in between 65 and 70 degrees and sunny every day. Which has been extremely wonderful. Too bad we've had class during the day. But we get done around 13.00, so that helps. The last few days I've gone to the Mensa (the University cafeteria) after class got done. We've been sitting outside and eating to enjoy the wonderful weather. Yesterday they served some sort of noodle dish, along with a slab of meat, all covered in this gravy sauce. The meat was just fine, but the noodles and gravy sauce were awesome. Today they served potato wedges with this mayonnaise-type sauce to go with them. That was OK. They also had this vegetable-chicken mix, which was just OK. Anyway, it is only 2,65 Euro to eat at the Mensa, and it's a lot of food. So it's always a good deal even if I don't finish it all.
Last night I went to a beer garden with some people for an hour or so. It is at the top of this hill on the east side of Freiburg, and it gives a great view of the entire city. I had a Pils, and it was good as usual. I ended up talking with Drew and Josh about baseball and other sports for a while.
Classes have been going OK so far. We only have two classes right now, but for 3.5 hours per day. So it's kind of a lot for two classes. My German is slowly coming back, but it is definitely slow. The class keeps my attention well, though. The professor is very energetic, and she mixes up her teaching style a lot, which is helpful. My political science seminar was very interesting today. We discussed most of the treaties that have helped shape the European Union. For me, it was the most interesting class so far.
There's this nice little ice cream cafe on the corner by my dorm. I've stopped there the last couple of days after class for a one-scoop cone. It's only 0,70 Euro for a cone. So I'm loving that.
