Let's go back to Friday evening. I went to this little Cuban restaurant with some people from my program. We got some pizzas, drank some beers, and had a good time. Some people went to a club after, but I came back to my flat because I had homework to do.
Then on Saturday, I had German class and my political science seminar in the morning. None of us were really crazy about having class on Saturday, but it went well enough I suppose. My German is still a little rusty, but it's slowly coming back. My seminar is interesting, but also very detailed so far because we are going over the history of the European Union.
On Saturday afternoon, I spent a few hours watching episodes of West Wing and Youtube videos online and such because I needed a couple of hours to just unwind and do nothing. So that was good. At night, about 12 of us from my program went to this Irish Pub. We watched some of this Irish soccer match. After that was over, they put on "ESPN America," and we got to watch some college football. That was pretty cool. I also met another person that goes to the U at the Irish Pub. She is in the IES Freiburg program, which is very similar to our program except they take all their classes in German, and we take more field study trips.
Today we went on a long hike in the Black Forest from about 10.00 until about 18.00. We hiked for a total of about five hours, and it was beautiful. It was a perfect day (about 65 degrees and sunny), and the views from the tops of the peaks were amazing. We also saw St. Peter's Church, which is a local church with amazing architecture. After hiking, we stopped for coffee and cake at a little cafe outside Freiburg. I had an apple strudel, and it was delicious. Then I just basically headed back to my flat, and I've been doing homework since. It was good to get out of the city and enjoy nature for a day.
I spent a little time at the Irish Pub last night reminiscing about Minnesota with two girls that go to the U. It made me miss home a little, but it's also nice to have a few people here who know where I come from.
