So we have had some interesting weather this week. Monday was a little chilly, maybe 55 degrees or so and cloudy. Not really that bad though. Tuesday was a little warmer, probably 65 or so and partly cloudy. Wednesday was absolutely beautiful. It was 75 and sunny the whole day. That was awesome. And today it rained the entire day, though it's still fairly warm outside. And I see that there is snow in the forecast for Minnesota this weekend, so have fun with that.
This was another busy week of classes. The amount of work they are giving us is a little bit ridiculous. People in our program are constantly complaining about how much work it is. They even went as far as to write up a formal complaint to the staff and get everyone to sign a petition that went along with it. So we'll see how that goes. For being 16 credits, it does seem like an awful lot of work. I have always had more than 16 credits, but it has never felt like this much work before. It's maybe just a little more reading than usual, but the big time-killer is that almost all the professors require written summaries for just about everything we read. That is super annoying and takes up a lot of time. It's a "busy work" type of thing that I just hate. Seems more like high school.
On Tuesday night, a bunch of us went bowling. But German bowling is a little bit different. They have nine pins instead of ten, and they are set up in a diamond shape. The bowling ball is also a lot smaller, so it is verrrrry difficult to get a strike. I think we had three or four strikes the entire night, and that was with 16 people bowling continuously for almost three hours. I had one of the strikes though, so that was exciting. I also got what's called a "crown" at one point, which is when you knock down every pin around the outside of the diamond and just leave the one in the middle standing. Oh and they don't really score bowling at all like we do. Basically they have a bunch of different games (some as individuals, some as teams) that you can play when bowling, with tons of different rules that I won't get into. Anyway, it was a lot of fun. I stayed up Tuesday night watching the Twins game, but when it went into extra innings I went to bed because it was like 2.00 here. I woke up Wednesday morning to a very pleasant surprise (Twins win!), however, and spent the rest of the day in an ecstatic mood.
I was supposed to go to salsa dancing again on Wednesday night. But when I showed up, there were six guys there and only two girls. So I left because I had a lot of homework to do anyway. I took a little pregame nap on Wednesday night, then woke up to watch the Twins game. And I was sorely disappointed. But I stayed up til almost 4.00 watching it anyway. Yeah. So I was pretty tired today. I had four extremely long classes today. Except for my last class though. Our professor decided to take us out to a bar midway through class, so we all went and had drinks and just chatted. How awesome. Now I'm just chilling in my flat until I go out with some friends later. I have a busy weekend planned, and then we leave for our Luxembourg-Brussels-Paris trip on Monday for a week.
Ah I should also update you on my flatmate situation. Unfortunately, some things happened in the last week or so and one of my flatmates ended up moving out. The two girls that live in the same room had not been getting along too well, and in the last few days things kind of blew up. Long story short, they could not stand living with each other anymore, so one of them moved out to a different dorm. I tried to stay out of the situation and avoid taking sides as much as possible, though others in my program have sort of taken sides. Girls love to have the drama-fests sometimes.
I've been sort of sick the last few days. But not super sick. It involves lots of runny nose and a sore throat that is on and off. But that's about it. So I've been drinking lots of liquids. One girl in our program actually got so sick that she has been in the hospital the last few days. Apparently they can't really figure out what is wrong with her. So that's kind of scary.
It's going to kill me a little bit going on our field trip this next week and not knowing how the Twins are doing. Yikes. Yeah. Stupid Yankees.
